Good Friday & Sunrise Easter Services

In addition to traditional Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday services, we will host a special Tenebrae service on Good Friday at 7:00 p.m. and an Easter Sunday Sunrise service at 7:00 a.m.

    Our Good Friday Tenebrae Service

The Good Friday Tenebrae service, A Service of Shadows by Heather Sorenson, features five “shadows” ending with Christ’s death. Tenebrae is a liturgical service of the people, a “deeply symbolic service in which candles are progressively extinguished until the entire room is left in complete darkness.”

The emotionally moving service includes beautiful music for the choir and congregation accompanied by cello, viola, and piano. Scripture readings, a dramatic monologue, and educational insights connect us in an immersive experience, as the author says, “There is something beautiful, and rich, and grounding when we join saints from the past 1,200 years who met each year- on this night- to stay with Christ in His suffering.”

In this service, we honor Christ’s request to stay with Him in His hour of suffering. The hour-long service will begin at 7:00 pm, on March 29.

    Our Good Friday Sunrise Service

As people of hope, we can celebrate that the grief of Good Friday is vanquished by the ultimate joy of the Resurrection, and we live as Easter People. This is the theme for the Easter Sunrise Service at 7:00 a.m. March 31st.

This joyous service, led by members of the congregation, will feature many traditional elements, including favorite hymns and liturgy, but it will also include dramatic presentations in lieu of a traditional sermon.

Although communion will not be served at this service, it will be celebrated at the 9:00 am service which will be led by Rev. Hans Sacrison. The FELC youth will serve a pancake Easter breakfast between the two services on March 31st.

Please join us for the journey through Holy Week and the joyous celebration of Easter!
